Everything Open 2027 will be held in Meanjin / Brisbane from 20-22 January 2027. The conference will be run in the Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST - UTC+10) timezone, which does not use daylight savings time.
Everything Open is a grassroots conference with a focus on open technologies, the community that has built up around this movement and the values that it represents.
At the core of Everything Open is the community. The conference is entirely organised by volunteers who have a passion for bringing together the open technologies communities to share their collective experience. Everything Open is a not-for-profit event that aims to provide attendees with a world-class conference at an affordable rate.
COVID-19 provided rough years, with conferences (including this one) going online or being delayed, and so essentially Everything Open had to restart, with people returning to in-person conferences only when they felt comfortable doing so (with masks and social distancing rules in place, where appropriate). The growth has been substantial though, approximately 10-20% per year in recent years. This is very encouraging, because for many of us, Everything Open (and linux.conf.au before it) is also a special occasion for people to meet up with old friends (literally and figuratively!), and thus it is great to see most of these people again, as well as new attendees.
The presentations cover a broad range of subject areas, including Linux, open source software, open hardware, open data, open government, open GLAM (galleries, libraries, archives and museums), to name a few. There are technical deep-dives into specific topics from project contributors, as well as tutorials on building hardware or using a piece of software, not to mention talks covering the inner workings of our communities. The conference draws upon the experience of the many events that have been run by Linux Australia and its subcommittees, starting with CALU (Conference of Australian Linux Users) in 1999, linux.conf.au over the past twenty years, and the Open Source Developers Conference (OSDC).
Linux Australia represents Australian users and developers of Free Software and Open Technologies, and facilitates internationally-renowned events. Linux Australia provide the financial, insurance, and technical infrastructure for Everything Open.
Everything Open 2027 is organised by a core team of volunteers who contribute many hours of their time to run this event. The Everything Open Meanjin / Brisbane 2027 core team consists of Arjen, Fraser, Charelle, Matt, Andrew, Srdjan, Tim, Vladimir, Paul, Kirin, Avery, LT, and Craig. (This list may be added to or otherwise fluctuate.)
Note that these people are listed here because they deserve credits for doing all the hard work, please don’t “pester” any individual but rather follow the official contact channels for the different areas of the conference (general contact, speakers, volunteers, registrations, etc). If something has not (yet) been announced, you are not going to get any (more) information out of them. Thanks.
In addition to the core team, there are many other contributors who put in significant effort to make this a successful event.
